I-5 - 179th St. Interchange - Interchange Improvements

We want your feedback! The design team would love to know how you drive, walk, bike or roll through this intersection in Clark County. Public survey is open until Monday, June 17!

¡Quisiéramos conocer su opinión! Al equipo de diseño le encantaría saber cómo conduce, camina, va en bicicleta o rueda por esta intersección en el condado de Clark. La encuesta pública está abierta hasta el lunes 17 de junio.

Project overview

This project aims to improve mobility for travelers who use the I-5 - Northeast 179th Street interchange. Signalized intersections will be removed and replaced with roundabouts at the on- and off-ramps to and from I-5. Roundabouts help to relieve congestion by keeping people moving safely through the intersection. This will make it safer and more accessible for people who walk, bike or roll through this area.

The project also includes replacing the I-5 bridges over Northeast 179th Street and addressing nearby fish barriers.

What to expect

Once the scope of the project is determined, the project will move onto the design phase, which is followed by construction. Traffic impact information will be developed during the design phase and provided when construction begins.

Public input needed on roundabouts and pedestrian and bicycle features

People are invited to attend an in-person open house event or provide virtual feedback about the current design of the future I-5 and NE 179th Street Interchange Improvement project in Clark County.

In-person open house details

  • When: 5-7 p.m., Monday, June 3
  • Where: Alki Middle School Commons, 1800 Northwest Bliss Road #1823, Vancouver, WA 98685

This is a drop-in style event and there will be no formal presentation given.

Virtual public survey

The public virtual survey shares the preliminary roundabout design concept, collects information on the size of vehicles using the intersection, gathers input on the proposed shared-use path for active transportation users, and welcomes questions about planned construction.

Free, temporary, drive-in Wi-Fi internet access is available to those who don't have broadband service locations throughout the state.

Originally built in the early 1960's, the Northeast 179th Street interchange is in need of upgrades and safety improvements to bring the interchange up to today’s design and safety standards. With anticipated growth in Clark County, the existing interchange configuration is not expected to be able to accommodate future traffic volumes.
