WSDOT needs help from drivers to limit delays during annual bridge cleaning and maintenance

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND – Wet weather, sea air, and salt can combine to corrode steel. To counter the effects of these elements, Washington State Department of Transportation crews are set to return to the State Route 305 Agate Pass Bridge that connects Bainbridge Island with the Kitsap Peninsula.

Beginning Monday, Feb. 12, crews will begin their annual effort to hand clean the bridge and conduct maintenance. This effort will help preserve this span for years to come.

Lane closure information

The bridge will be reduced to one-way alternating traffic during the following times:

  • 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Feb. 12-15
  • 11 consecutive days from Tuesday, Feb. 20, through Friday, March 2
    • 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays
    • 7:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24 and Sunday, Feb. 25

What drivers can expect

  • Drivers can expect up to 30-minute delays due to one-way alternating traffic.
  • Ferry service will not be affected, however drivers are advised to add additional travel time to reach the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal.
  • Ferry customers are encouraged to consider using alternate routes to cross Puget Sound during this work.

What can drivers do?

  • Drivers are advised to plan extra time and minimize discretionary trips.
  • Use the bridge before or after the work hours.
  • Consider adjusting work schedules and telework if possible.
