I-90 - Hamilton Westbound On-Ramp Deck Repair

Project news

  • The contract was awarded to Max J. Kuney Company on May 22, with a winning bid of $1.43 million.
  • Closure of the I-90 westbound on-ramp has reopened with minor construction items to finish in 2019. The 2nd Ave offramp to Hamilton reopened in mid-January.
  • Restrictions for Oversize Motor Vehicles will be in place during the ramp closure.

Travelers will have several options to access westbound I-90 during the closure, though some depend on vehicle height (see map):

  • Vehicles under 14 feet tall can take the Second Avenue ramp down to Browne Street and access I-90 there
  • Vehicles under 15 feet can briefly head east, exit at Altamont Street (exit 283 A) and then travel under the freeway  and take the westbound ramp back onto the interstate
  • Vehicles over 15 feet will need to head east to the Third Avenue/Freya Street interchange (Exit 283 B) and then cross over to Second Avenue and take the westbound ramp onto I-90

Needs & benefits

This project consists of deck repairs to the I-90, westbound ramp from I-90 to Hamilton Street and SR 290.  These bridges, opened in the early 1970's, cross Third Avenue and Second Avenue just east of downtown Spokane.  The bridge surfaces are in a state of disrepair requiring extensive maintenance.  This project will resurface the bridges providing a smoother roadway.

Construction is scheduled to run from July through December 2018. Expect minor items to be finished in 2019.
