Know before you goBoats get the right-of-way under federal law. Under an agreement with the US Coast Guard, pleasure craft is prohibited from requesting draw span closures to traffic from 3 to 6:15 p.m. between May 22 and Sept. 30. The rule doesn’t apply to commercial or Department of Defense vessels.

By law, WSDOT is required to open the Hood Canal Bridge drawspan to mariners within one hour’s notice, and motorists are advised to expect up to 60-minute delays with each opening. If no drawspan openings are listed immediately below, no non-military drawspan openings are scheduled.
